Acupuncture

An Effective Pain Treatment for the 21st Century

Dr. Derek Maul not only is trained as a Chiropractor, but offers Acupuncture as an additional service to his patients. Acupuncture is a currently accepted form of modern alternative medicine using very thin metal needles inserted into various trigger points that are used to treat diverse types of chronic pain such as back pain, neck pain, pain from arthritis and knee pain. It has also been used with remarkable success in treating nausea, migraine headaches, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and infertility. In 1997, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) documented that Acupuncture was a safe and effective treatment for pain and many other conditions.

Acupuncture originally began as an ancient Chinese therapy 2500 years ago.  Even earlier evidence has been discovered linking archaeological evidence and findings of ancient stone and bone” needles” to Acupuncture treatments that existed more than 8000 years ago.

Acupuncture is based on the ancient Chinese theory that energy (Qi – pronounced “Chee”) in the body normally travels along energy pathways which are called meridians. Each of these meridians is associated with and connected to a certain organ or group of organs. When energy flow along these meridians is disrupted or blocked, an imbalance in normal energy balance occurs which causes disease and pain.

How Acupuncture Works

To restore energy homeostasis and to correct these energy blocks and imbalances (Yin and Yang), Acupuncture involves inserting very thin metal needles through the skin into one of approximately 350-400 Acupuncture points throughout the body. This releases pent-up energy in a particular area of the body as well as stimulating pain-relieving endorphins in the brain and thus helps to relieve pain, stress, and illness. These thin, solid needles are sterile, non-toxic and approved by the FDA for single- use only by a qualified, licensed practitioner.

    • Depression

Acupuncture together with Chiropractic Care

Acupuncture is a holistic remedy rather than surgery or drugs which helps correct energy imbalances and boosts natural healing. This, in turn, allows for greater flexibility and thus increased receptivity for more effective Chiropractic care by the professionals at Gallagher Chiropractic and Wellness Center.

Since Acupuncture also decreases pain signals to tolerable levels, relaxes muscles and increases blood flow to affected areas, and speeds healing, it allows Dr. Maul to more easily perform therapeutic alignments and manipulations which would otherwise be much more difficult due to intractable pain.
